Opinions differ concerning the origins of the zentai. One thing is for sure: the phenomenon comes from Japan and the term was born from the contraction of the two words “ZENshin TAItsu”, which means “tight from the head to the feet”.
We can imagine a play on words with “Sentai” which was the name of one of the first Japanese science fiction series for children (1975), whose heroes used to wear a mask and very tight suits.
We can also also read that the catsuits originally come from the puppet masters of the traditional Japanese Bunraku Theater (which uses on stage big puppets), in order to make themselves invisible.
Anyway, zentai culture has its own king: Marcy Anarchy. The now 54 year old photograph discovered as an adult the sexual character/dimension of the heroes from his childhood. He founded in 1985 the Zentai movement via internet.
